Lais Carvalho
Laís Carvalho blends observability expertise with Open Source and a passion for community-building. Former board member (EuroPython, Python Ireland), forever mentor, and advocate for inclusive tech. When not untangling distributed systems, she’s probably playing with watercolor brushes—proof that creativity and logic are NOT mutually exclusive.
Sessions
In this talk, Laís will traverse the collection of experiences that have defined her eventful lifetime: cycling through 4 undergraduate courses, becoming an orphan at 11, launching an engineering office at 19, and confronting cancer. She will explore how 15 years of therapy and countless more of processing trauma have shaped her world-view. Laís will offer insights on navigating life through pain, vulnerability, and unwavering principles, while sharing her journey into Python and the meaningful stories of community and love that emerged along the way.
Though it may seem otherwise, this talk is fundamentally about you—about how your Self is instantiated by the people around you and the experiences you choose to embrace or avoid. Just like Python's self parameter, we will examine how our states and behaviours may be mutable, but they never override the core definition of who you are.
