From ELIZA to GPT: How the uncanny shaped human-AI interaction's hidden history
Laura Gates

This talk traces how the uncanny—that productive tension between familiar and strange—shapes effective human-AI interaction. I'll explore how Weizenbaum's, Mori's and Turkle's pioneering work reveals dynamics we can strategically leverage, and how understanding this lineage leads to more effective use of AI systems.
