AI is transforming data careers. Roles once centered on modeling and feature engineering are evolving into positions that involve building AI products, crafting prompts, and managing workflows shaped by automation and augmentation. In this panel discussion, ambassadors from Women in Data Science (WiDS) share how they have adapted through this shift—turning personal experiments into company practices, navigating uncertainty, and redefining their professional identities. They’ll also discuss how to future-proof your career by integrating AI into your daily work and career growth strategy. Attendees will leave with a clearer view of how AI is reshaping data careers and practical ideas for how to evolve their own skills, direction, and confidence in an era where AI is not replacing, but redefining, human expertise.
In this session, WiDS panelists from diverse backgrounds and seniority levels will discuss how their careers have evolved since the AI boom. Some have shifted from traditional modeling to AI product or prompt engineering roles; others have found new ways to integrate automation into analytics pipelines. Some experienced uncertainty—seeing priorities change or resources shift toward AI initiatives—but also uncovered new opportunities through experimentation and collaboration.
The conversation will focus on how adaptation actually happens: small personal projects that turned into company initiatives, upskilling moments, leadership transitions, and emotional turning points in embracing change. The panel will also include an economist perspective on how AI redefines white-collar work—not only through substitution, but also through creation of new value and career paths. The panel will conclude with concrete advice on weaving AI into your current role to enhance productivity, visibility, and long-term career resilience.
Target audience: Data scientists, data analysts, and engineers curious about how AI will impact their career trajectories, responsibilities, and opportunities.
