Aji Fama is a dynamic Information Technology professional with a diverse range of expertise in digital governance, community leadership, and AI. Currently serving as an IT Assistant at the World Bank Gambia Country Office.
As a passionate advocate for women in tech, Aji Fama has led the Women Techmakers Banjul chapter for the past four years, empowering women and girls through mentorship, resources, and visibility. They have facilitated key sessions at international conferences, including IGF Gambia and Europe, and have been an international speaker at the Google Sub-Saharan Africa Summit.

Aji Fama is actively involved in the Policy Network on AI Governance, focusing on AI liability and its societal impacts, and has consulted with UNESCO on Freedom of Expression Guidelines. Their work also includes leading youth consultations for the UN's Summit of the Future and advocating for gender inclusivity in technology.

A first-time attendee at PyCon Italy and and of PyCon Africa 2024, Aji Fama is dedicated to expanding their global network and contributing to the broader tech community.

I am a Self-taught Backend Developer working in a consultancy company that creates software for Swedish energy companies. I have a background in Business Administration and finance but never worked there. I got into tech accidentally just because I wanted to understand how Blockchain works and half of the book was code examples, so I started learning programming and had way too much fun with it and decided to become a software developer. I was working in my company in 2022, so I am in between Junior and Mid developer. I am also one of the PyLadies Stockholm members and organizers now.

I am deaf from birth and I consider myself a little bionic with my two cochlear implants. I am a developer and I fight for accessibility. For me, everything must be accessible both on the web and in daily life. This is why through my work, I advocate a lot to ensure that sites and applications are accessible to everyone. I am convinced that artificial intelligence for accessibility can help many disabled people, but we cannot create just anything. We cannot create tools for disabled people without disabled people. Nothing about us without us.

I am a dedicated open source enthusiast with a passion for collaboration and community building. I completed the prestigious All in Africa program by GitHub, which fueled my commitment to contributing to the open source ecosystem. Jess Temporal is a Senior Developer Advocate at Auth0 by Okta and co-founder of the first Brazilian data science podcast, Pizza de Dados. Author of "The Big Git Microbook", c\reator GitFichas, a git study cards collection, and is a GitHub Star. Jessica helped develop the AI that identifies possible unlawful expenses from Brazilian politicians. She is part of the Pyladies, initiative that works to improve diversity and inclusion in technology. In her free time, she knits, plays video games, and is currently learning to rollerblade.

Karen was a database administrator for over 20 years and was once described as “quite personable for a DBA”, which she decided to take as a compliment! She’s now a Senior Solutions Architect, helping her customers to design and manage their (PostgreSQL) database environments.

Karen gives talks about databases at PostgreSQL and developer conferences because she loves sharing knowledge. She is also on the PostgreSQL Europe board and helps to organise various PostgreSQL community events.

When she’s not playing with databases, Karen can either be found crocheting cute gifts for her friends, or out on one of her bikes enjoying the mountains where she lives with her family.

Katie (they/them, @glasnt) has worn many different hats over the years. They have served as a Director of both the Python Software Foundation and the Django Software Foundation, and has been a core organiser of PyCon AU and PyConline, and have keynoted PyCon Australia, PyCon Taiwan, and PyCon Thailand. They were awarded the O'Reilly Open Source Award in 2017, and Honorary Lifetime Member of the New Zealand Python User's Group in 2022. She holds a master's degree in cognitive systems from the University of Potsdam, where she studied the intersection of language, learning, and reasoning.

In her current role, Lisa leverages her technical and linguistic skills to enhance the user experience and engagement of Pure App. She develops and deploys NLP and LLM solutions that enable users to communicate more effectively, discover compatible matches, and receive personalized recommendations. She also contributes to the research and innovation of the app, exploring new ways of using AI to create meaningful and authentic connections. In her regular work, Marysia works on the data quality initiatives of LLM training data for Cohere. On the side, she organises PyData Amsterdam, facilitates #data4good initiatives with CorrelAid, and regularly attends and speaks at conferences.

I am a Quality Assurance Engineer with a strong foundation in software engineering and program management. I co-lead Droicon Kenya and actively contribute to various tech communities across the country. My passion lies in ensuring high-quality software solutions while fostering collaboration and innovation within the tech ecosystem.

Pavithra Eswaramoorthy is a Developer Advocate at Quansight, where she works to improve the developer experience and community engagement for several open source projects in the PyData community.

Currently, she maintains the Bokeh visualization library, and contributes to the Nebari (adjacent to the Jupyter community), conda-store (part of the conda ecosystem), and Ragna (RAG orchestration framework) projects.

Sasi Dharani is the Founder and Lead Instructor at eduSeed, incubated at IIM-B. She has a decade of experience in developing educational applications. Her flagship app, Pocket Aptitude, ranked among the top 25 apps in Education in 2013. Her apps have been downloaded by more than 2 million users in the PlayStore and AppStore. She was featured in The Economic Times as the woman behind India’s top competitive exam preparation apps in 2014. She has also been featured in Naanayam Vikatan (2014), Puthiya Thalaimurai (2014) and All India Radio (2020) for her work in Education.

Sheena O’Connell has been programming since her early teens, and has worked on a wide array of projects and products, from embedded code and driver development for custom hardware, to microservice architecture, data pipelining and web development. She has taken active part in all phases of software development, from ideation to production; championed agile and devops practices and led dev teams to success.

Sheena has dedicated the last 5 years to tech-education and has given hundreds of people a start in coding and tech through her non-profit work, either through direct guidance, or through training trainers and education system design. I work alongside a team of scientists in Tetra Tech's Center for Ecological Analytics and Modeling (CEAM). My current research uses data analytics (i.e., data wrangling, data modeling and analyzing, and data visualizing) to predict and minimize human impacts on our climate and water resources at regional and national scales.
