DESCRIPTION:Bago et al. (2023) suggested that elaborate reasoning enhances
motivated reasoning\, where individuals process information in ways that a
lign with their beliefs. To test and refine these findings\, we plan a two
-stage study: First\, a replication of the original study will be conducte
d with the reduction of potential sampling biases and a power analysis bas
ed on the original article. Second\, we will proceed with a replication ex
tension involving the manipulation of motivated reasoning. For this\, we p
lan manipulation check studies to assess the effectiveness\, and then we w
ill submit the replication extension as a Registered Report. This process
generates challenges\, particularly regarding research practices (e.g.\, a
ccessibility of data and analyses\, choice of statistical models)\, as wel
l as methodological difficulties\, especially in conducting a priori power
analyses for linear mixed models. These challenges and the strategies emp
loyed to address them will be presented and discussed.
