Science and Society: Sustaining Meaningful Science Communication in Academia and Beyond
Science communication is essential to the progress and impact of research, yet day-to-day, it often takes a backseat to traditional academic outputs like publications. How can we foster a culture where careful, open, and inclusive science communication is valued as much as publishing? And how can we open a path for this process to feedback into our research work? And finally, how can academics maintain their commitment to these ideals while navigating institutional pressures and career demands? This discussion will explore strategies and ideas for prioritizing science communication, sustaining engagement across disciplines and societal groups, and balancing outreach with research responsibilities. Additionally, we will consider whether and how these efforts can extend beyond academia into other professional roles that young researchers can take. This unconference session invites participants to share experiences, challenges, and solutions to better integrate and elevate science communication within and outside academic institutions.
