DESCRIPTION:Previous research has indicated that sleep promotes memory cons
olidation. Further\, it has \noften been suggested that sleep mainly conso
lidates emotional memories\, and that sleep \nreduces the emotional reacti
vity associated with aversive experiences. Recent meta-analyses \nhave\, h
owever\, revealed that previous studies on this topic have been strongly u
nderpowered\, \nand that selective publishing of positive findings is a ma
jor problem in the field. We aim to \nremedy this through a pre-registered
 \, well-powered\, multi-lab collaboration study in which we\nwill examine
 A) whether sleep\, compared to wake\, increases memory consolidation\, B)
\nwhether this putative sleep-dependent consolidation benefit is more pron
ounced for negative \ncompared to neutral stimuli\, C) whether sleep\, to
a larger degree than time spent awake\, decreases \nemotional reactions to
previously viewed negative images\, and D) whether any sleep stage \nwill
be particularly associated to either memory consolidation or in decreasin
 g emotional \nresponses.
