DESCRIPTION:The n-back task is a standard measure for “working memory”\
, yet versions differ in stimuli\, trial structure\, and scoring methods a
mong other features - differences that can threaten construct validity\, r
educe comparability of results\, and complicate evidence synthesis.\nWe ar
e presenting a preregistered meta-methods study to map how procedures and
scoring of the n-back task are implemented and reported across studies. So
-called meta-methods studies systematically document differences in implem
entation and reporting of specific paradigms. \nWe will search databases f
or English-language adult studies published between 2005 and 2025\, which
utilize a single n-back task. We will randomly sample 100 eligible article
s for double-coded extraction. We will summarize (a) the diversity of proc
edural and scoring variants and (b) how often key details are indeterminab
le from reports. Outputs include an open codebook and reporting recommenda
tions. We welcome audience feedback on translating findings into usable st
 andards.
