2026-05-07 –, Track 1
Commercial interests in academic publishing and shortcuts in research assessment via citation metrics have given rise to practices that contaminate the scientific record. Due to predatory publishers, intransparent and low-quality peer review, AI generated articles, and questionable research practices, the publication status of a research article or the prestige of the journal it has appeared is rarely an indicator of quality. We present the R2 Initial Editorial Assessment, which is in line with the Diamond Open Access Standards (DOAS) for journals and can be employed by any academic journal even with minimal resources and improve research quality.
