The mappers in Germany are busy as ever mapping every trail in the forest, every train signal, and the occasional collapsed bridge. But there is more going on.


The mappers in Germany are busy as ever mapping every trail in the forest, every train signal, and the occasional collapsed bridge. But there is more going on.

It seems our maps and tools are used basically everywhere now, from government offices to popular hiking apps to insurance companies. Everybody uses OpenStreetMap, often without knowing that they do. And most don't understand how OSM works and how they can contribute.

This talk about the state of Germany will go into some of the issues we are facing today.

Jochen Topf has been active in the OpenStreetMap community for many years as mapper, software developer and community organizer. He is the maintainer of the Osmium framework, created the taginfo site, an active osm2pgsql developer and has his fingers in many other OSM-related software. In his professional live he works as a software developer and consultant in the OSM and GIS world. Since November 2023 he works part-time for the FOSSGIS e.V., the local chapter for Germany of the OpenStreetMap Foundation.
