DESCRIPTION:Geo-literacy provides skills to read\, interpret and use geosp
 atial information\, where little evidence exists regarding the potential a
 nd capacity of new education programs in advancing these skills. We presen
 t a citizen science project held in 13 high schools in Israel\, where the 
 students practice participatory mapping with OpenStreetMap to map features
  relevant to the navigation of visually impaired pedestrians. We show that
  students improve their geospatial thinking and reasoning skills\, includi
 ng their self-esteem. We believe that this research contributes to various
  pedagogic and education levels\, in terms of theoretical knowledge about 
 the integration of innovative geo-literacy programs.
