Why Does Land Use Data in OpenStreetMap Matter for Disaster Recovery?
Mikko Tamura, Nisreen Mahmoud, Jessie Pechmann & Bernard Heng

OpenStreetMap Lebanon with Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) mapped land use across Lebanon to support disaster recovery. Detailed classification of residential, agricultural, and critical infrastructure areas enabled faster damage assessment, prioritization of response, and recovery planning in conflict-affected contexts, strengthening locally driven, evidence-based humanitarian decision-making and resilience overall efforts.

HOT Tech Tools: End-to-End Solutions for Humanitarian Mapping Workshop
Mikko Tamura, Nisreen Mahmoud, Jessie Pechmann & Bernard Heng

Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) Tech Tools workshop presents an end-to-end humanitarian mapping workflow integrating both HOT and non-HOT solutions. It showcases the Drone Tasking Manager for aerial drone tasking, fAIr for localized AI-assisted mapping, the HOT Tasking Manager Sandbox for experimentation, ChatMap for lightweight community mapping via WhatsApp, and uMap for visualization. The session demonstrates how interconnected geospatial tools accelerate data production, enhance analysis, and support informed humanitarian decision-making.

Damage Mapping in Conflict Zones: Lessons from Myanmar and Lebanon
Mikko Tamura, Nisreen Mahmoud, Jessie Pechmann & Bernard Heng

Conflict settings present unique challenges for damage mapping, including limited access, rapidly changing conditions, and heightened data sensitivity. Drawing on HOT’s H2H-supported responses in Myanmar and Lebanon, this presentation explores key lessons learned in coordinating remote mapping, ensuring data quality, managing protection risks, and delivering timely geospatial information. The session will highlight practical approaches, successes, and challenges in supporting humanitarian decision-making through collaborative damage assessment in conflict-affected environments.
