At IBM, we have over 9,000 Open Source Engineers who work in over 900 open source organizations. As the people who review all of the open source contributions for compliance, we have legal oversight and must document everything. Until recently, we have required engineers to fill out word processing templates and then have our compliance team review each document one line by line to look at every release we do. This is painful.

In this talk, we introduce the new pipeline for IBM open source compliance review that uses docassemble.org, an open source tool to guide engineers to answer questions to generate the needed documents, and Granite, an local open source AI model, to help compile, categorize, and streamline the feedback loop for our compliance team. This allows them to focus on the content and legal questions instead of the process.
