DESCRIPTION:*A panel discussion to brainstorm about a sustainable and resi
lient future of Wikidata's key volunteer-built tools.*\n\nMany everyday ed
its and contributions to Wikidata are powered not by Wikidata’s own edit
ing interface\, but by an ecosystem of very diverse software tools which a
re designed and maintained by external parties. \n\nQuite often\, individu
al Wikimedia volunteer developers create and maintain such software in the
ir free time (examples include tools like [QuickStatements](https://www.wi
kidata.org/wiki/Help:QuickStatements) and the [Wikidata reconciliation ser
vice](https://wikidata.reconci.link/)). In some cases\, tools are part of
larger projects that receive occasional funding (examples include [OpenRef
 ine](https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Tools/OpenRefine)\, [GLAMpipe]
(https://glampipe.org/)\, [the Wikimedia Commons mobile app](https://commo
 ns.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Mobile_app)\, the [ISA Tool](https://commons
 .wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:ISA_Tool)\, and many others).\n\nThe resulting
Wikidata tool ecosystem is extremely rich and interesting\, but also noto
riously vulnerable. Development on such tools can easily stall when mainta
iners don’t have (the privilege of) free time (anymore)\, move on\, and/
or when temporary funding runs out.\n\nThis panel discussion and group bra
instorm wants to look at this situation with a practical and solution-orie
nted mindset. What actions can we take as a community to make this tool ec
osystem more resilient? Does the Movement Strategy process offer tools for
taking up this challenge? Which tools should be developed centrally to en
sure the core practices of the content communities\, and how can we simult
aneously encourage lightweight experiments in the community? \n\n**Panelis
