Lexica is a web-based, mobile-friendly tool that makes it easy for anyone to contribute to Lexemes in Wikidata, including undeserved languages. With a simple interface, Lexica helps users link Lexemes to Items, add script variants, and apply hyphenation. In this session, we will demonstrate how Lexica can be used to add lexicographical data, and to facilitate more inclusive contributions across language communities.
Editing lexicographical data on Wikidata can be quite challenging for many. Lexica was created to lower these barriers. Developed by Wikicollabs and supported by Wikimedia Deutschland, Lexica is a tool for contributing to lexicographical data. The tool works on both mobile and desktop, making it easier for contributors while enabling contributions in underserved languages.
In this session, we will introduce Lexica, including the background of its creation, the challenges it addresses, and its key activities (linking Lexemes to Items, adding script variants, and adding hyphenation). We will also share the languages supported in Lexica, accessibility features, and a demo of how to use Lexica.
By the end of this session, attendees will have a better understanding of lexicographical data, how to use Lexica, the challenges it is designed to overcome, and how to contribute to this project as editors or translators. This session is open to both newcomers and experienced contributors, as well as anyone interested in languages.
