The Very Small GLAM initiative looks for reducing entry barriers for very small GLAM entities using Wikibase, opensource software and affordable hardware. It's being developed through the implementation of the digital archive for history of the cinema industry in Almería by LaOficina Producciones Culturales as a first hand practical driver. A Very Small GLAM (VSG) solution should attend for multimedia knowledge graphs, suitable for GLAM projects, and affordable for very small organizations or groups.
VSG, inspired by the ISO/IEC 29110 standards, aims to contribute to the elimination of entry barriers for collections, facilitate research access to new and diverse collections, methodologically address the specificities of GLAM practices, and help nurture the digital heritage of the humanities. Thus, we have identified Wikibase Suite as a multimedia semantic platform, developed a series of functional requirements in collaboration with DARIAH-EU WG DHwiki, and a configuration of software artifacts suitable for our project and other GLAM applications. For data modeling, an ontology is being built, aligned with Wikidata, based on CIDOC-CRM, as a first-level GLAM ontology, extended with subsets of other ontologies like the Thesaurus for Graphic Materials, RightsStatements for file and intellectual property management, and supplemented with the OralHistoryInvertviewCRF vocabulary for oral memory annotation.
Shepherding the commons since 1994. Wikimedian in residence in LaOficina Producciones Culturales. In love with Wikidata and currently implementing a digital archive for history of the cinema industry in Almería developing the Very Small GLAM concept over the Wikibase platform. Q87475754.
