In 2023, Wiki Loves Living Heritage brings the authorities and organizations responsible for safeguarding intangible cultural heritage around the world together with the Wikimedia affiliates and contributors to create activities at the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Wikidata plays a pivotal role in this. Each member state of the Convention is responsible for safeguarding measures by maintaining an inventory of living heritage in the area. This session walks through importing data to Wiki Loves Living Heritage and the ways in which it has been used throughout Wikimedia projects. We will introduce some of the tricky ethical considerations related to data contributions, such as indigenous data sovereignty. We invite you to imagine together how to continue working with cultural data of this kind!
