Farhad Mehta
Farhad Mehta is a Professor for Software Engineering and Programming Languages in the department of Computer Science at the OST-Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences. His interests and experience include software engineering (both mainstream and formal approaches thereof), programming languages, functional programming, logic and algorithm design. He dreams of a future when software is much more fun to write and just works.

Git is one of the most essential and heavily used tools for software development in a team and release management for complex projects. Originally written by Linus Torwalds for collaboration on the Linux kernel, Git is the most widely used version control system in use today.
Although most developers are able to get by with a superficial understanding of how git works, very few are able to use it with confidence, especially when the tool reports warnings or errors. In this workshop, we will take a look at the basic concepts behind distributed version control using Git, and see how it can be used using multiple hands-on exercises. By the end of the workshop, it is my aim that you are able to use Git effectively and confidently for collaboration in your software development project.
By the end of the workshop, it is my aim that you are able to use Git effectively for collaboration in your software development project. You should also have the confidence to use its more advanced features, or translate your know-how to other version control systems.
