There is only one thing promised to all of us: Death. Yet, what happens to our online lives after we’re gone remains a complex and deeply personal question. This talk explores how users want their digital presence to be handled after death, touching on platforms like social media, cloud storage, and other online accounts. Digital assets often hold immense emotional resonance, acting as modern memorial grounds filled with photos, messages, and videos that provide comfort and connection to loved ones left behind. However, with this emotional weight comes significant responsibility for platforms. What role should they play in managing digital legacies? This talk also explores the innovative features that platforms can implement to address these needs, such as Account Heirs, Memorialised Profiles and even Time Capsules that delivers content to loved ones at a future date.
As a naturally inquisitive person, it only makes sense that I found my calling in UX Research. With four years of experience in the field, I have honed my skills in understanding and enhancing user experiences across diverse industries.My academic journey began at the University of Cape Town, where I earned a social science degree with majors in sociology, gender studies, and history. Hailing from the warm and sunny Johannesburg, South Africa, I bring a unique perspective to my work.
