Security Hardening with Yocto Project

A discussion of security hardening options for OpenEmbedded / Yocto Project.


With the steady increase of Internet usage and access for embedded systems and the "Internet of Things", embedded device security is more important now than ever. This talk will walk through some of the available options in core OpenEmbedded and the Yocto Project poky reference distribution for security hardening, then move on to what security features and tools are available in other metadata layers. Note that this talk is an updated version of one previously presented at Yocto Project Developer Day Virtual 2020.

Scott has been a Linux user for over 25 years, and has developed Linux based embedded products for almost 20 years at a variety of companies large and small. Currently, he works for Konsulko Group as a Principal Software Engineer, providing embedded Linux engineering services for Konsulko's customers. He has been working with OpenEmbedded and Yocto Project since 2014 and has previously presented on a variety of topics at Yocto Project Developer Day.
