El Salvador stands at a turning point in history. With its adoption of Bitcoin and its forward-thinking leadership, it has become a magnet for builders and visionaries around the world. But the question remains, what kind of civilization will we build here?
In my talk I would like to make a compelling case for why Bitcoiners, guided by low-time-preference values, should lead the effort to restore beauty, art, and craftsmanship to the nation’s development. Drawing inspiration from El Salvador's coffee barons of the 1800s who built enduring landmarks and cultural institutions that still serve as a symbol of national pride today, this presentation explores how modern Bitcoiners can do the same: creating long-lasting architectural and cultural legacies that define the next century of El Salvador.
The talk will trace the nation’s historical arc from its golden age of artistic ambition, through decades of war and decay, to today’s unprecedented moment of peace and renewal. It will highlight the contrast between fiat-driven development (focused on short-term gain) and Bitcoin-driven building (focused on permanence and legacy).
Key Themes:
• Why fiat culture led to the decline of beauty.
• How incentive structures shape the built environment.
• Lessons from the coffee barons of El Salvador and their architectural legacy.
• The untapped opportunity for Bitcoiners to shape El Salvador’s cultural renaissance.
• How art, beauty, and architecture reinforce low-time-preference civilization aligned with the Bitcoin ethos.
Audience Takeaway:
Attendees should walk away with a deeper appreciation of El Salvador’s history, the opportunity that stands before us, the role money plays in shaping culture, and how they can become active participants in a renaissance.
