سوف نناقش التهديدات والفرص في مجتمعاتنا الناشئة، من الشؤون الجيوسياسية، مروراً بحقوق الإنسان، وصولاً إلى التقدّم الاقتصادي. ومن دون شك، سنتطرّق إلى دور الإنترنت ومستقبله في المنطقة، ليس كشبكة حرة ومفتوحة فحسب، بل كأحد أسس الحياة الكريمة وكحقّ من حقوق الإنسان
خلال الجلسة، سنمرّ أيضاً على العلاقة بين الأنظمة الاستبدادية وشركات التكنولوجيا في منطقتنا، إضافة إلى القوانين والأنظمة المقيّدة للسيطرة على الترفيه ومنصات عرض المحتوى
During this opening session, speakers from across the Arabic-speaking region will share their thoughts and observations about rights and freedoms at the intersection of technology. This session will tackle threats and opportunities within our emerging societies while keeping in mind the geopolitics at play.
From the relationship between authoritarian regimes and tech companies in our region to restrictive laws and regulations to control entertainment and online streaming services.
Mohamad Najem is the executive director of the Beirut–based digital rights organization SMEX (smex.org)—the Middle East and North Africa’s leading digital rights organization. His work includes local and regional advocacy campaigns, research on freedom of expression, privacy, and data protection. Mohamad organizes the yearly event “Bread & Net”, the first unconference in the MENA region that tackles topics related to technology and human rights. He graduated from Stanford Draper Hills Summer Fellows Program in 2019 and in January 2021, he was featured in TIME magazine as one of the top activists in the Arab region.
