To provide an understanding of young people’s sexual and reproductive health, and rights (SRHR) from a digital perspective.
To encourage digital rights organisations, youth networks, and development practitioners to think more expansively about how technology can be used to;
a) Subvert repressive regimes that undermine young people’s health and rights
b) Build resistance and strengthen solidarity among communities
c) Design safe spaces where young people’s digital rights are respected and upheld
To shed light on the rampant censorship of SHRH-related content, particularly in the Arabic language .

Subversion, Resistance and Safe spaces: How communities are wading through SRHR censorship online in the MENA Region: this session organised under the Masarouna programme is designed to be a panel discussion with different prompts encouraging guest speakers to hold space about how they instrumentally use digital technologies and social media platforms to advance their work on broader issues of social justice with a particular focus on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).
Mona Shtaya is a Palestinian digital rights defender working in the MENA region. She is working as an Advocacy Advisor at 7amleh- The Arab Center for the Advancement of Social Media, and a non-resident scholar for the Middle East Institute (MEI) in the Cyber Security and Emerging Technology Program and in the Palestine-Israel program. Mona holds MA in Social Media and Digital Communication from the University of Westminster. She previously worked as the community outreach specialist and Social Media Specialist at Transparency Palestine, the national chapter of Transparency International.

A Palestinian SRHR expert, and a Social Architect. She is the founder of SLETATE; a jewelry brand specializes in exclusively-designed accessories related to Women’s Sexual Health. She has been appointed as a Global Champion for the SheDecides Movement, which brings together governments representatives, civil society and individuals who work to insure the right of choice and bodily autonomy for all women and girls around the world.
Currently, she is specializing in Social and Behavior Change science.
Hayat Mirshad is a Lebanese feminist activist, journalist, trainer and communications and advocacy expert.
Hayat is an advocate for women and girls’ rights since 2007, where she coordinated and led various projects and campaigns about gender equality and women’s rights in Lebanon. She is a co-founder and executive director at FE-MALE, Editor in Chief of Sharika wa Laken feminist platform, Feminist Advisory Board member at Care International, Board of trustees member at Takatoat feminist collective-Jordan
