The session will present the Arabic version of the National Democratic Institute’s Cybersecurity Handbook for Civil Society Organizations, a one-stop guide that teaches critical technical concepts while simultaneously helping users construct a comprehensive organizational security plan. In creating the Handbook, NDI consulted with peers and colleagues in this space to identify key resources for each topic area and existing gaps not covered in other guides. The final product compiles and adapts existing resources and combines them with fresh new content to provide organizations with the building blocks to develop their own basic digital security plans.
This lightening talk session will introduce participants to the Cybersecurity Handbook for Civil Society Organizations, a resource that provides not only an introduction to key digital security concepts critical to keeping organizations safe online but also offers a set of "building blocks" to help organizations get started in developing their own organizational digital security plans.
The session will be presented by Ahmad Karout from the National Democratic Institute, who will discuss the collaborative process that went into making the Handbook and what sets this Handbook apart from the many other excellent digital security resources available. They will provide a brief overview of the Handbook content (newly available in Arabic) and offer practical recommendations for how organizations can develop their internal policies and practices around digital security. The session will also discuss the online course that serves as a companion to the Handbook, offering an alternative method for learning the material and creating your draft security plan.

خلال هذه الجلسة، سوف يتعرّف المشاركون على دليل الأمن السيبراني لمنظمات المجتمع المدني، وهو مورد يتضمّن مقدمة حول المفاهيم الأساسية للأمن الرقمي الضرورية للحفاظ على سلامة المنظمات على الإنترنت، ويوفّر مجموعة من الخطوات لمساعدة المنظمات على البدء بتطوير خططها الخاصة في مجال الأمن الرقمي.
يقدّم الجلسة أحمد قاروط من المعهد الديمقراطي الوطني، الذي سيناقش العملية التعاونية التي أفضت إلى صياغة الدليل وما الذي يميّزه عن غيره من الموارد الأخرى في مجال الأمن الرقمي.
تتضمّن الجلسة أيضًا لمحة عامة عن محتوى الدليل (الذي بات متوفراً باللغة العربية مؤخراً) فضلاً عن توصيات عملية للمنظمات للبدء بتطوير سياسات داخلية وممارسات خاصة بها في مجال الأمن الرقمي.
وأخيراً، سيناقش الحاضرون الدورة الرقمية المرفقة بالدليل، والتي تشكل طريقة بديلة للاطلاع على محتواه وإعداد مسودة خطة أمنية.
Ahmad Karout is a civil society and communications specialist with over fourteen years of experience in grants making and project development as well as in information technology, marketing, media relations, and the design and development of media and communication campaigns, website design, and content development for the benefit of civil society.
Currently serves as a Program Manager at the National Democratic Institute (NDI) in Lebanon.
