MozFest 2022

Reimagining Consent: A Discussion & Gallery Exhibition
Language: English (mozilla)

Everyday we make decisions about platforms and tools, making choices about how we consent to our data and information being used by third parties. New privacy regulations in various jurisdictions have had a drastic impact on that consent experience — some positive, some negative. We will host a discussion and virtual gallery to showcase examples of consent user experience from around the world — both current realities (good + bad) and exploratory ideas and concepts. See what’s been submitted to the Consent Gallery (https://airtable.com/shrZSumhBM6DSyILb/tblkHBbRqiAaV22gs) so far and submit something today (https://airtable.com/shr3xzoqGYuVgg42n) to include in the discussion! Need inspiration or want more info—view the guidelines for submissions (https://simplysecure.org/blog/open-call-submissions-for-reimagining-digital-consent-a-discussion-gallery-exhibition-at-mozfest-2022/).

What is the goal and/or outcome of your session?:

The goal is to create space to reflect on the current state of consent user experience and inspire future improvements and iterations. One of the outcomes will be the gallery itself as a collection of artifacts from around the world.

Why did you choose that space? How does your session align with the space description?:

Privacy & Digital ID seemed the most relevant with the focus on privacy and consent as a critical intervention point for engaging around privacy in the user experience of tools.

How will you deal with varying numbers of participants in your session? What if 30 participants attend? What if there are 3?:

The gallery will be able to serve any number of participants, and the discussion session will have some key discussants and then support questions from the broader group making it easy to scale.

What happens after MozFest? We're hoping that many efforts and discussions will continue after MozFest. Share any ideas you already have for how to continue the work from your session.:

The gallery can stay available to the public as a resource on the Simply Secure website, and we can share a write up of the discussion so that all of the work can continue to shift the status quo around consent user experience and privacy.

What language would you like to host your session in?:

English
