MozFest 2022

Strengthening Data Ecosystems for Ed-tech
Language: English (mozilla)

Some aspects of education as we know it have changed, been left behind, or improved with new technologies, and folded within this change is a big question: what happens to a learner’s data? If you are a parent, educator, academic, administrator, reformer or simply an engaged adult, do join our workshop. We welcome people from diverse backgrounds to build a multidimensional perspective on data governance in education.

Through this session we will use creative exercises to start a conversation on e-learning in schools; data stewardship; students’ data privacy; informed consent and more. Where do we currently stand? What are our hopes and concerns for the future of education, and educational data? How might we bring our preferred futures into being?

We have another workshop on the same topic for young people too. You can access its details (here.)[https://schedule.mozillafestival.org/session/NPQCQL-1]

What is the goal and/or outcome of your session?:

This session is part of a workshop series on ‘Strengthening Data Ecosystems’ coordinated by Mozilla and USAID. The outputs of this session will inform Mozilla’s working groups that seek to create awareness and empower young people, educators, and youth organizations within education to reduce harm and best serve the needs of students and their communities. The opinions and responses shared through this session will be aggregated, and not personally identifiable.

How will you deal with varying numbers of participants in your session? What if 30 participants attend? What if there are 3?:
  • We will take help from our co-facilitators and volunteers if the number of participants is larger than expected
  • Our workshop is designed in a flexible way where big groups can be broken into smaller ones for the activities
  • We are also prepared to conduct conversations in a more intimate setting if the group size is small. Participants will be given an opportunity to share their perspective on data governance in education from their context
What happens after MozFest? We're hoping that many efforts and discussions will continue after MozFest. Share any ideas you already have for how to continue the work from your session.:

After MozFest, we will:
- Synthesize the key learnings from this workshop
- Develop design principles for the working groups
- Playback these design principles to experts
- Document project learnings in a publication for the working groups to take forward

What language would you like to host your session in?:
