Join us for this session in cultivating collective intelligence as we scan together and collect signals about everything mis/disinformation. We'll be introduced to a scanning framework and use some tool(s)/methods that enable us to take on different perspectives, look at current and emerging trends, and peel back some layers to better understand what underlies this current milieu of "alternative facts" and "truths".
Please note: This session is best accessed from a laptop/desktop as we'll be using Zoom and a Mural as our virtual whiteboard.
Our scan hits and discussion notes will contribute to the Myths and Metaphors of Mis/Disinformation session taking place on March 9th join us to continue building!
All of us have a futures mindset to varying degrees of utility and effectiveness and it's clear this is one of the most important capacities to further develop and employ in these times of volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous change. The great news is that futures literacy is a capability everyone can cultivate.
One of the most important capacities of becoming more futures literate is the ability to take in lots of information and sensemake of it all. I look forward to sharing some approaches to scanning the horizon, gathering signals and collectively exploring how they interact to imagine possible futures. Ideally we can continue to contribute asynchronously and/or get together sometime in the futures again.
How will you deal with varying numbers of participants in your session? What if 30 participants attend? What if there are 3?:The session is easily malleable to a small or large number of participants. In this particularly case, for sure, the more the merrier: more signals and more perspectives for sensemaking!
What happens after MozFest? We're hoping that many efforts and discussions will continue after MozFest. Share any ideas you already have for how to continue the work from your session.:Would love to continue collectively scanning and sensemaking to further galvanize and empower folks to more effectively use the futures we want (or don’t want) to inform our actions and decisions today. I would welcome opportunities to continue to demonstrate/share the power of Futures Thinking and Foresight in this Mozilla space- for individuals, organizations, and institutions. There are also the MozFest working groups to engage with. In addition, I am core team member of Futures Space: The Digital Home for Futurists & Futures Activists where there is a Futures of Digital Co-Creation space launching that all are welcome to join and contribute to. MozFest (and Mozilla) provide amazing networking opportunities to connect with and engage with co-conspirators and co-creators of solutions to ethical issues in digital humanity and I am certainly open and excited about what might emerge from this session and the festival overall.
