AI systems deployed in our societies are known to perpetuate existing societal inequalities. This is because data gathered, stored, managed, and used reflect the priorities and biases inherent in those with the power to extract and own the data. In this session, Mozilla’s new Creative Media Award awardees will highlight how their projects can solve this problem. Their projects include web-based games - exploring personal data values and the data power imbalance between online sex workers and tech companies; using ‘natural intelligence’ to make decisions rather than datasets and leveraging on animated video to explore how datasets might be ‘rewilded’ to overcome prejudicial biases. The Awardees come from Zambia, Italy, UK, Belgium, USA, South Africa, and Australia.
Highlight the projects of the new CMA to the Mozilla Community and the global data stewardship ecosystem.
Create opportunities for CMA awardees to connect with experts working on similar projects.
It is a conversation about the role of art and media in galvanizing a movement towards new data governing models.
How will you deal with varying numbers of participants in your session? What if 30 participants attend? What if there are 3?:This will be an informal moderated session and the facilitator will help manage the varying numbers by creating interactive opportunities for all participants to be involved if numbers are few.
If numbers are more than expected, the moderator and facilitator will ensure each participant who wants to share their views will be able to do so in a comfortable and safe environment.
What happens after MozFest? We're hoping that many efforts and discussions will continue after MozFest.
