As a kick-off of FIBER’s Reassemble Lab ‘Natural Intelligence’, this public programme will invite artists, technologists, researchers and policy makers to reflect upon the possibilities of a fossil-free internet based on ecological ethics and regenerative principles.
What role can design, creative coding and artistic research play to envision and prototype a fundamentally different way of adapting our technological demands to natural cycles? What does it mean to learn from, adapt to, and work with natural intelligence, and how to imagine, articulate, practice and connect initiatives towards fossil-free futures?
This first part of the programme will discuss the themes of Energy Literacy and Fossil-Free Imaginaries with Marloes de Valk (software artist, writer and PhD researcher at the London South Bank University), Michelle Thorne (Sustainable Internet Lead at the Mozilla Foundation and co-founder of Branch Magazine), Shayna Robinson (futurist, tech environmentalist, Program Officer for the Internet Society Foundation’s Research and Innovation Programs) and Abdelrahman (Abdo) Hassan (data science practitioner, activist and poet).

This programme will explore alternative internet infrastructures based on earthly dynamics, low-carbon solutions and ecological ethics. What role can design, creative coding and artistic research play to envision and prototype a fundamentally different way of adapting our technological demands to natural cycles? The aim of the programme is to bring together existing practices and knowledge, facilitate conversations, and to form new alliances.

We're very pleased to combine our audience with the audience of MozFest for the online programme.
¿Qué pasará después del MozFest? Esperamos que muchos esfuerzos y discusiones continúen después de MozFest. Comparte cualquier idea que tengas sobre cómo continuar el trabajo de tu sesión.:The four days of the Natural Intelligence lab (including this first public programme) are the start of a long-term effort to bring togehter communities from different disciplines around the question of an internet based on ecological ethics and regenerative principles. FIBER will continue to work on these questions during the upcoming festival, a new lab later in 2022, as well as through events, workshops and publications in collaboration with partners. We would love to continue our collaboration with MozFest as part of this endeavour.
