MozFest 2022

Open History Map
Idioma: English (mozilla)

OpenHistoryMap is an italian non profit association (APS) founded by a team of archaeologists and software developers based in Bologna, Italy. Our aim is the creation of a web-GIS platform containing spatial historical and archaeological data and to create an ecosystem for historical information to be gathered and exposed. Since 2016 we have been defining standards, publishing (wherever possible Open Access) papers and developing open source applications for the creation of the ecosystem. In the last two years the work has become more and more structured in order to define several instruments that are part of the infrastructure: map, data and several specific usages of the data itself are collected in our system, where users can explore the past and the evolution of mankind. Our map is at https://map.openhistorymap.org/ and the meta-description of the data stored in the system is at https://index.openhistorymap.org/. We are working heavily towards the definition of tools to create structured datasets based on Digital Humanities Semantic Formats for digital historians to prepare common open packages to be reused in various situations.

¿Cuál es el objetivo y/o el resultado de tu sesión?:

I will be presenting the OHM ecosystem for endusers and possibly data providers to both establish the existence of the platform, explain the tools we already have defined, finding partners and explain to users how they can contribute data.

¿Por qué has elegido ese espacio? ¿Cómo se ajusta tu sesión a la descripción del espacio?:

We are working in an extended Digital Humanities field, working with economy historians, archaeologiests and data driven history researchers, so the space is absolutely perfect.

¿Cómo vas a hacer frente si varía el número de participantes en tu sesión? ¿Y si asisten 30 participantes? ¿Y si son 3?:

The workshop is not participant-dependent.

¿Qué pasará después del MozFest? Esperamos que muchos esfuerzos y discusiones continúen después de MozFest. Comparte cualquier idea que tengas sobre cómo continuar el trabajo de tu sesión.:

On one side we hope to involve the participants directly during the session, but before the mozfest we will be publishing the documentation fo the importing platform for the ecosystem. This enables users to contribute the code to import their datasets to the structure.
If participants have interest, on the other hand, to join the development, we already have the structures and infrastructures up and running.
