In this cafe-style session, we will share the Digital Infrastructure Funder's Toolkit - a project supported by the Open Collective Foundation's Digital Infrastructure Grant - with the community at MozFest. The toolkit is an implementation framework for funders of digital infrastructure with guides, programming, and models, along with narratives of funding in open source and digital infrastructure, and regional contexts about funding digital infrastructure in different parts of the world.
First, we will give an overview of the toolkit. Next, we will break out into groups with our participating global regional partners who will share out and lead discussions on digital infrastructure funding from their regional contexts.
The goal of this session is to share the Digital Infrastructure Funder's Toolkit with the community - open source developers, project managers, designers, and funders. We hope to engage in a discussion on these tools for funders in the ecosystem with the community, and share and explore global, regional contexts as well.
¿Por qué has elegido ese espacio? ¿Cómo se ajusta tu sesión a la descripción del espacio?:Rethinking Power & Ethics is the perfect venue because funding is ultimately an act of power. The maintenance and sustainability of open source digital infrastructure are critical to modern society. Unfortunately, open-source maintenance is often underfunded and on a volunteer basis. We hope that this toolkit will address this gap by giving funders - a group with the power to change the status quo - an understanding of digital infrastructure, and tools to engage with and understand this important community to better support OS and digital infrastructure projects.
¿Cómo vas a hacer frente si varía el número de participantes en tu sesión? ¿Y si asisten 30 participantes? ¿Y si son 3?:If we have 30 participants, we will present the first part (the project overview + toolkit) as a group with a lively discussion; and the regional partners will lead breakout groups focusing on regional contexts of global infrastructure funding with discussion and reflection. Should our session only include 3 participants, it would be an opportunity for a more open discussion and share out among the partners, project team, and participants.
¿Qué pasará después del MozFest? Esperamos que muchos esfuerzos y discusiones continúen después de MozFest. Comparte cualquier idea que tengas sobre cómo continuar el trabajo de tu sesión.:We hope to engage participants by asking for feedback on the toolkit, and any opportunity where we engage with the community is an opportunity to begin new conversations, and explore new ideas through potential partnerships. We hope our regional partners would also find connections with this community.
