With technical, social and political systems changing faster and faster, lifelong continuous learning is more important than ever before. Learning with others can be great to pick up new skills, stay motivated and integrate practice into daily life. But are we optimally equipped for social learning in this day and age?
In this workshop we will consider how modern web infrastructure can equip us for meaningful peer2peer learning at scale. Particularly, we will look at Web Monetization, which is being proposed as a W3C standard at the Web Platform Incubator Community Group.
Most compensation of online content creators currently relies on privacy invading advertisement models. Web Monetization provides an alternative by enabling the streaming of money from web visitors to content creators via an open protocol.
Together we will explore how this model can support equitable social learning exchanges and offer new models for peer2peer learing on the web.
We will explore how the model of Web Monetization can support meaningful social learning experiences and offer new models for peer2peer learning on the web.
We will brainstorm ideas and come up with new workflows.
The ideas generated during this workshop will serve as input for the design process that the community driven social learning app Gradual is undergoing as part of the current Grant for the Web cohort.

The main goal of this session is to welcome participants to think about ways online learning can become more inclusive and community oriented. We believe that more democratic learning processes can make communities more resilient and help individuals find their own voice in online spaces.
We hope this session's outcomes will spark ideas for the web monetization ecosystem that help us move away from broken advertisement models.
¿Cómo vas a hacer frente si varía el número de participantes en tu sesión? ¿Y si asisten 30 participantes? ¿Y si son 3?:We will host a short introduction to get participants on the same page and then move to break out groups that are small enough for everyone to share their ideas. Every group will have the chance to express their ideas via a virtual whiteboard. Depending on group size we'll have more or less time for groups to share back results with each other.
