With the growing awareness of the effects of the privatisation of data, the quest for data governance models that are designed with public values in mind is thriving. The work on the governance of the commons provides a promising point of departure for the discussion on the collective management of data.
In this session, we will to focus on the operational questions concerning data commons: what are possible rules for gathering, transforming, accessing and sharing data?
Stakeholders determine the rules for a specific setting collectively and he process for determining the rules in specific circumstances is central in the study of the commons. We will leave the organisational and legal questions aside and focus on the rule patterns for the data commons. This is a more technical matter, especially when the
enforcement of thes rules in data infrastructure is concerned.
We welcome contributions from different angles: work on data access rules, but also broader work on distributed data and computation infrastructure can be highly relevant.
The goal of the session is the further development of the community concerned with rule schemata and infrastructure aspects of data commons
