Johanes Petro, Anna Carol
Johanes Petro currently is a GIS and Technical Project Manager at Open Map Development Tanzania with vast field experience supervising data collection for urban resilience. He was selected 2022 by the Permanent Secretary of PORALG to join the national technical on-field committee for the establishment and development of Kwala Commercial and Investment City due to his expertise. Johanes has extensive experience managing various projects within and outside Tanzania including Kenya , Uganda, Zambia ,Mozambique, Nigeria and Rwanda
Anna Maholi is a dedicated professional working with OMDTZ as a Data Quality Officer and GIS Assistant. She is passionate about data, geospatial technology, and community-driven projects. Anna ensures data integrity and accuracy, contributing to reliable insights and data-driven solutions. In her GIS role, she manages geospatial datasets, conducts spatial analyses, and creates visually engaging maps. Outside of work, Anna actively participates in community projects, including mapping for environmental conservation, conducting geospatial data literacy workshops, and supporting youth development programs.
Intervention
The Ramani Zetu Sauti Zetu project is built on the foundation of the Ramani Huria project, which set a precedent for community-based mapping to enhance flood resilience in Dar es Salaam. Ramani Huria empowered communities, local government, and emergency responders to create and utilize open locally verified spatial data to identify flood-prone areas, map drainage infrastucture and enhance disaster preparedness plans and response.
The project carries this legacy forward while expanding its scope both geographically and strategically. Whereas Ramani Huria focused on mapping and community engagement, the new initiative introduces critical elements that enable communities to act on data. This includes supporting the development of community-based early warning systems such as Sirens, repairing drains, designing localized disaster preparedness plans, stronger coordination with government and humanitarian actors, and awareness campaigns to drive behavior change.
