Let’s get closer - Let us show you how you can already benefit from Wikidata in your Wikimedia project and chat about how to make it even better
語言: English

In this session we will show you how you can already use the data in Wikidata and various tools around it to make your Wikimedia project better and make your editing life easier. After that we will discuss your ideas for how to make Wikidata even more useful for you and your Wikimedia project.

One of Wikidata's primary goals is to support the other Wikimedia projects by providing structured data in a central place. Today a lot of projects already make extensive use of data from Wikidata and Wikidata benefits from contributions by editors from the other Wikimedia projects. We will take you on a whirlwind tour and show you tools and tricks you will be able to use to make your editing life easier and your Wikimedia project better.

There are still a number of barriers to much wider use of Wikidata's data inside Wikimedia though. After this initial presentation we want to discuss with you about what needs to happen to make sure that more and more editors can rely on Wikidata to reduce their workload and improve the content in their projects.

Wikidata is a vital tool for collaborating on content across project and language boundaries in our movement. We need to increase this collaboration.

As part of my session on harnessing the power of open data, I will be incorporating Wikidata technical tools into Wikipedia and its sister projects. This will help to foster greater collaboration and diversity across the Wikimedia projects, better enabling us to reach a wider audience and ensure that everyone's voice is heard. My session will discuss how these tools can be used to systematically increase the diversity of content on Wikimedia projects, and how this in turn will help to create a more inclusive, equitable, and vibrant future for everyone.

This session can be seen as a direct reflection of the event themes of Diversity, Collaboration and Future. On one hand, the incorporation of Wikidata technical tools can enable greater collaboration among Wikipedia and its sister projects, thereby enabling more diversity of contributions to the projects. On the other hand, the use of open data can enable more advanced and automated processes, leading to the use of the future of knowledge management. Our session will provide a platform for exploring the diversity of contributions by introducing ways to incorporate Wikidata technical tools into Wikipedia and its Sister Projects.

I am a student currently studying Systems Engineering in the University of Lagos. I have extensive experience in working with open datasets, incorporating them into data analysis processes and utilizing them for meaningful insights. In particular, I have developed expertise in working with Wikipedia and its sister projects, such as Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons. I have used these platforms to extract data for analysis, to generate data visualizations, and to create custom web applications. I have also been involved in various projects related to open data and leveraging the power of Wikipedia and its sister projects for the public good, such as creating interactive data visualizations for OpenStreetMap and other mapping services. I am confident that my experience and knowledge of Wikipedia and its sister projects will help me facilitate a productive and informative session.

Apart from my full-time role at Wikimedia Germany, I am passionate about building up the Wiki community, Open Government projects and promoting the linked open data web across the world. When I was the Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic (until 2020) pro-bono basis, I pushed for the digitisation of cultural and heritage sites to start digital tourism and promoted open data in various government agencies.
