MozFest 2022

What is the future of open source community building ?
Language: English (mozilla)

Provide space and reflection on open source community building:
- How might we balance reward and enablement?
- How do we know when a dynamic becomes exploitative?
- How might we balance financial sustainability and imbalance of power in funded open source projects?
- How might we ensure that these projects undo the harms of capitalism, rather than feed them?
- How could praxis such as design justice and ubuntu AI play a role in informing community building?

What is the goal and/or outcome of your session?:

The aim of the session, is to provide space for people to reflect and generate idea about the future of open source community building.

Why did you choose that space? How does your session align with the space description?:

Mozilla has a long history of community building, but alot has changed since we began. For example open source has been embraced by big tech, open source communities are "scalling" into Global South.

How will you deal with varying numbers of participants in your session? What if 30 participants attend? What if there are 3?:

We want space for reflection and creation, we will use facilitation techniques that allow for everyone to partiicapte regardless of the numbers of attendees. For example using breakout rooms and having facilitators.

What happens after MozFest? We're hoping that many efforts and discussions will continue after MozFest. Share any ideas you already have for how to continue the work from your session.:
