How can politics of proximity function without spatial proximity? Urban spaces can foster political proximity/participation and labs of designing innovative societies. How is it possible to participate in times of social distancing? Which approaches do we see for participation and co-creation of cities and municipalities in a post-pandemic future? Do we need to rethink? In which direction? We invite three perspectives from Barcelona, Amsterdam and Berlin.

Wie funktioniert Politik der Nähe, wenn räumliche Nähe nicht möglich ist? Urbane Räume können Orte politischer Nähe/Partizipation und Labore innovativer Gesellschaftsgestaltung sein. Wie lässt sich partizipieren in Zeiten von social distancing? Welche Ansätze sehen wir für Beteiligung u. Mitgestaltung in Städten und Kommunen in einer post-pandemischen Zukunft? Malisa Zobel is the program director of the Municipal Integration and Development Initiative (MIDI) in Berlin and coordinates the project “Integration of Refugees as a Joint Municipal Development” at the HUMBOLDT-VIADRINA Governance Platform. She holds a doctorate in comparative political science.

Xavi Ferrer is a founding member of Barcelona en Comú and former co-head of its international group. He currently promotes the networking of local initiatives, so called municipalism or communalism in order to create a global movement. He holds a master’s degree in development cooperation.
Xavi Ferrer ist ein Gründungsmitglied von Barcelona en Comú und war Co-Vorsitzender der internationalen Abteilung. Er fördert derzeit die Vernetzung von lokalen Initiativen, so genannter Munizipalismus, um eine globale Bewegung anzustoßen. Er hat einen Master in Entwicklungszusammenarbeit.
Sophie Bloemen writes, speaks, and organizes on the commons and a new economy. She directs and co founded the think tank Commons Network, which currently works with the 99of Amsterdam. Sophie has degrees in philosophy, political economy and International Relations.
